Break the Cage is a small business that focusses on UK outdoors activity. I have always loved the outdoors and the more I found myself tied to the daily routine of the commute to work in the city the more I wanted to break out in my own time. Break the Cage started as an outdoors blog, and, as well as continuing to write about the outdoors, we now sell a few items that relate to our posts.

Our Story

How did we
get here?

I have been exploring the outdoors since I was a small child. My parents were keen outdoor enthusiasts and lots of weekends were spent in the Fells and Dales of the North of England and the Beinns and Glens of Scotland.

The concept for Break the Cage was formed while commuting to a city centre office job one day and trying to squeeze through the crowds to get to the ticket turnstiles.

I started off creating a small blog with some of the routes I have walked, and places I have been. Then after teaching some people a bit of map reading while going up Helvellyn I sourced, at their request, some maps and compasses so they could practice navigation in their own time. I then thought it would be a good idea to offer some maps, guides and accessories to complement my blogging.
